I was in Nanaimo for a martial arts seminar and didn't really get to explore the town and eat out, but on the way back, managed to grab a bite at some of the local places. Someone said they wanted Mexican and we ended up at this place that clearly catered to consumers of non-meat products. The closest thing they had to flesh was chicken, and I was in the mood for something that went moo. I stepped in to this tree-hugging, bunny loving outfit and found myself surrounded hippies eating Mexican Food you wouldn't even find in Texas, let alone Mexico.
My friends decided to spend some cash, but I opted for the free water and a plate of nachos for $5. From what I had, I basically got tortilla chips from Costco or Save-On foods, and yes, you guessed it, Tex-mex cheese. There was some sour cream and some bottled salsa. Suffice to say, I would have been far happier saving my money for something like a burger from White Spot on the ferry.
Delicado's makes their own salsa.... And I would have chosen one of their wraps or the nachos with all the toppings rather than the kid's size one.
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteThanks for reading. For home made salsa, it tasted pretty generic. Anyway, I've had what I think is authentic Mexican food and there's no Tex-mex or fusili-pasta salad on the menu:

Ordering a larger size nacho plate or wrap wasn't going to improve my experience at Deliacado's

I have traveled all around the world and eaten at many many restaraunts and I have to say I am addicted to the chicken roll up at delicados it is amazing !! next time you visit if you do please try this i think you will change your tune
ReplyDeletecheers
I seriously doubt that, but thanks anyway, haha!
ReplyDeletePeter
I have worked at delicados and know for a fact it is made instore so enjoy your white spot burger that isnt made with processed generic plastic food ....right!!1
ReplyDeleteHi Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteI'm happy that you're familiar with your product info, unfortunately, it's just not made that well. It tastes exactly like procesed generic plastic food.
Peter
The chicken roll up is amazing. Nachos are nachos, what do u expect from a boring plate of chips? Seriously it is all fresh and soooo good- do you ever give people second chances, you should with food too!!! You will not regret the chicken roll up:)
ReplyDeleteRight on, another Anonymous supporter of this place. Nachos can be awesome, but Tex Mex is Tex Mex, and this place executed even that poorly. Do I give people second chances? Absolutely, I give Costco samples second chances all the time, but if I was ever on the island again, I seriously doubt I would seek and this place for round two.
DeleteI guess you give costco a second chance, ITS FREE
DeleteYour whiny complaints aren't winning me over, haha! Yeah, Costco samples are free, I'll give you that, but despite being free, I don't usually bother lining up for even a first go around for Costco samples, nevermind a second round.....that's how bad I think Delicado's is.
DeleteNice photos.
DeleteYou ordered something off the kids menu...so don't be so quick to judge the whole place. By the way the salsa is homemade, not bottled. Also by the way, this isnt a mexican restaraunt. no where do they say they are mexican.
ReplyDeleteI see people are still crying a river of tears over this place, another one come to the rescue. I ordered off the kids menue because there was NOTHING else on the menu that looked appetizing. Yes, I realize the salsa is homemade, but it tasted bottled.
ReplyDeleteAnd if that's not a Mexican restaurant......no, wait, it doesn't matter what type restaurant it is, either way I didn't like it. But I don't think there's any confusion on what kind of restaurant it is with the menu, the abienance and the name. Is there any possibility of confusing it with perhaps a Chinese smorgasbord?
