Hairy Curry? Curry Point and La Tandoor

I don't think I will ever eat here again.  The place is a filthy little dive in a corner of a nasty little food court in the Village of UBC.

To capitalize on the popularity of butter chicken, they charge an extra $2 for it when you order a 2 item combo and want two orders of butter chicken. Their prices are already not competitive with say Curry Express (which actually has better butter chicken in my opinion).

The butter chicken was a bit runny and not as rich as some other places.  If you like your butter chicken runny, Curry Point is for you.  For the most part, it was edible until........

............we found a hair at the end of the meal.  I know it's so cliche to complain about a hair in one's food, but c'mon, this is just downright gross.  I should have known better because that dingy little food court isn't fit for the cafeteria in a P.O.W. camp.  The entire place is minging, and the moment you walk in, you feel like you're surrounded in filth.

Anyway, I'll never go back to Curry Point, just like this other place called La Tandoor in Steveston.

La Tandoor is an Indian place in Steveston and when they first opened, lots of people were talking about it, but when I went, it was a pretty quiet place with an AYCE buffet table.  I went for the AYCE which was a huge mistake because all I eat is butter chicken and maybe sometimes tandoori chicken.  For $20+, I ate a lot of butter chicken, and I can get a decent butter chicken meal at Curry Express for about $8.  The butter Chicken was good though, don't get me wrong, but it's the dessert station where my experience fell apart.  There was a dark curly hair in the dessert that was some sort of rice pudding.

I guess it goes without saying I'll never go back to La Tandoor either.

Curry Express - Lansdowne Mall

The Curry Express in Lansdowne Mall is the one I prefer, great friendly service, a steady flow of freshly made food in good size portions that make sure you're full when you're done.  It's a 5 minute walk to my workplace so I go there sometimes when I forget to pack a lunch.
Two Curry Combo Special for $7.49 - two curries, rice, naan, and a drink.
For $1, I sometimes get a extra samosa.

The service is still food court service, but leaps and bounds ahead of Curry Express - Oakridge.  The Lansdowne location is quite busy so they're always replenishing the food, which means its fresh.  I usually get two orders of butter chicken with my combo.

Curry Express - Oakridge Mall

I know, it's the food court, but I really like the curry from Curry Express.  It's quick, it's cheap, and it's tasty.  usually eat at the location in Lansdowne - ttaff there are generally friendly, but the location at Oakridge, not so much.  The guy behind the counter greeted us with a look of general disinterest, as if he was being forced to work there.  He was always looking off in some other direction, never made eye contact once....just bored I guess.  He slopped our food onto the plate, and there was dinner.
Well, whatever, despite the shabby service, the butter chicken still tasted like butter chicken.
Sloppy, but tasty.
I got a samosa just for good measure, but after all that, I was really, really full.  The samosa was vegetarian, so it was stuffed with potatos and some other stuff.  The pastry wasn't too greasy, still crisp on the outside.
The naan was good, not much else to say about it....it wasn't soggy?
I didn't actually eat at this place, but it was right next door to Curry Express and I thought it was wortha  note.  Made In Japan Teriyaki Experience........WTF. What exactly was made in Japan here, I have no idea....the experience?  The teriyaki?  In the 20 some odd times I've been to Japan, I've hardly ever seen the word Teriyaki.  McDonald's had a really good teri-tama burger once.  I seriously doubt if any of the guys behind the counter could speak any Japanese, let alone the owners or managers.

Anyways, back to Curry Express Oakridge, I don't think I'll go back to this particular location.  The service was sub-par, even for a food court standards, but besides that, I had some stomach trouble after eating here, which has never happened to me at the Lansdowne location.  The lazy worker behind the counter could have been lacking in other aspects such as food handling, which kind of scares me.
