Milestone's Coquitlam

I’ve been a fan of Milestone’s for a while now, and I know it’s not fine dining and not on par to the likes of Chop, The Keg, or Joey’s, but it’s a pretty good bang for your buck as far as family restaurants are concerned and the food is definitely a step above say White Spot, Swiss Chalet, Denny’s or Red Robin’s (are the even around still?).  I know I’ve been to this location before several times, but when I went through my postings, I couldn’t find one for this location.  We stopped in to this place after a day at the range and settled down to what was really my first meal of the day.  I don’t recall eating anything all day, but I guess I was having too much fun sending anger down range, haha!

The spinach and artichoke dip is a long-time favourite at Milestone’s and probably one of their signature appies.  The dip itself is served warmed and comes with bottomless tortilla chips....wish the dip was bottomless too, haha!

I ordered my usual favourite - the Four Cheese Burger.  It comes with a quality sesame bun, decent burger patty, veg and 4 lovely cheeses including goat and feta, and it’s topped with roasted garlic that literally melts in your mouth.  I ordered mine with a Caesar Salad that was also topped with the same roasted garlic. 

We ended up with some sort of desert our server talked us into, not even sure what it was but it sure looks tasty doesn’t it?  Haha, I think it was a freshly baked double chocolate cookie topped with ice cream.  The service here was as good as any Milestone’s (with the exception of the Yaletown location which I was not amused with one particular time.  This location, I would go in again if I was ever in the area.

Milestone's Lougheed

With the closure of the Milestone's in my own stomping grounds (Richmond), I seldom get a chance to have one of my all-time favourite burgers - the Four Cheese Burger.  Yeah, I can get a four cheese burger at Vera's Burger for $8.99 (difference cheeses - provolone, feta, cheddar and blue cheese), but between the two burgers, I have to say I like Milestone's a bit more.  The difference is in the bun.....Vera's bun is a bit sub-par, dry and hollow where Milestone's bun is almost brioche.  Plus Milestone's lettuce is more crisp, and the tomato and onion are nice thick cuts.  Vera's...on par with Burger King (which is not too bad for fast food).

Our server was very friendly, and came back on several occassions to make sure  our coffee/water was filled. 

Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad $12.99 - Milestone's lays claim to having the best caesar ever, and I have to say that I haven't had a better Caesar salad than the one at Milestone's.  It must have something to do with the roasted garlic and the shaved asiago cheese combo.  I also detect a hint of lemon, which works great with the dressing.

The Four Cheese Burger - $12.99 (+$0.99 to sub in Roast Garlic Caasar Salad).  It's topped with cheddar, pizza mozzarella, goat cheese, feta, roasted garlic, lettuce, tomato, a thick slice of onion and a pickle.  Personally, I like to eat the pickle seperately.

Kobe Style Classic Meatloaf - $19.99.  When they say "style", you know it's not the real deal.  But then again, why the hell would you take perfectly good Kobe beef and grind it up into meatloaf or hamburger for that matter.  A lot of places are doing it nowadays, or at least claiming to, but for me, if they really are using Kobe beef, it's a waste because as soon as you grind it up, it may as well be any AAA beef.  Yes, it tastes good, but my burger tasted better.

I haven't had a problem with any Milestone's location, except with the one in Yaletown.  This one is definitely a thumbs up.  The food was good, it came quickly and the service was exceptionally good.  From the moment we walked in, our host greeted us with a sincere, friendly smile, our hostess was quick, attentive and friendly, and again when we left, the hostess thank us.  Excellent, friendly service, good food.

Milestone's - Kelowna

One year we went up to Kelowna, again for the car show, we had dinner at Milestone's.  It was amazing that they were able to seat such a large group, and on top of that, we got what appeared to be a private room.  I didn't even know Milestone's had those types of arrangements.

My friend had the ribs and said they were decent, but I never got to try it.

I ended up with a steak.  It wasn't particularly memorable, but at the time, I didn't know about their four-cheese burger, which is my current all-time favourite dish from Milestone's.  The side veg was very unappetizing, as it should be in the company of meat.  The garlic mash was pretty good, and on par with The Keg's....a bit drier though.

The service at this location was spectacular and they handled our group very well.  The food all came pretty much at the same time and and all rather quickly.  I think if we ever vote on a place to go the next time we go up there, I'll have to put in for Milestone's.

Milestone's (Yaletown)

Since Milestone's in Richmond closed down, I haven't been able to get my fix for their Four Cheese Burger.  I had to make the trek out to Vancouver and decided to have a go with the Yaletown one.

Baked Goat Cheese and Slow-Roasted Garlic Flatbread Plate.  This is an excellent starter and a nice alternative to my other favourite - Spinach and Artichoke Dip (below).  The goat cheese had a lot of it's gaminess (is that even a word???) take out through the baking process, but retained a lot of good flavour and was still rich and creamy.  The half bulb of garlic was also great.  Again, the slow roasting took the bite out of it, but left all the good flavours intact.  The first time I had garlic prepared this way was in an izakaya in Shinjuku.  I've tried to make it myself but always botch it.

The Spinach and Artichoke Dip, one of my favourite starters from Milestone's and when in a group, always ordered.

Thai Chicken Drummettes.  Someone in our group wanted to try this, but the next time I want Thai or any Asian inspired food, I'll stick with Thai House.

Yam Fries....everyone's got them.

I still don't have a decent picture of my favourite burger, but here it is.  The Four Cheese Burger with a side Caesar salad.  The've got that slow-roasted garlic in there for good measure, and let me tell you folks, it makes the burger, it makes the salad.  One of the best Caesar Salads in my opinion. 

The Kobe Beef Meat Loaf, just as good as the Richmond location, but again, in all honesty regular beef could probably be subbed in and no one would be able to tell.  Frankly, I think it's criminal  to take Kobe Beef and make ground beef out of it.

The California Spring Salad.  It's not exactly my cup of tea to order a salad as an entree, but Milestone's has a whole section dedicated to folks that prefer it.  For me, it's a distraction....salad is what food eats.

Milestone's Yaletown has pretty good food as with other Milestone locations, but it is in a fancier part of town where even the air feels upscale and expensive.  The service however, was a bit of a miss.  I don't know if it was because it was date night (which basically meant it was two-for-one for the 4 of us who weren't on a date), or if it was because we were there near closing.  Our server was a bit argumentative with us and other servers were a bit curt, more interested in socializing with their friends who were visiting them or waiting for them to get off work. 

I don't find myself in Yaletown very often, but the next time I'm there, I think I'll give The Keg a try.  For Milestone's, I know the Robson one has really good service so I'll stick to that one.

Milestone's on Robson

I was going to wait until I had some better pictures to do this review, but I have no idea when I'll have a chance to go back to this location so here it goes.

Milestone's on Robson....I used to go to the one in Richmond, but they've recently closed and I'm kind of pissed about it. Milestone's has this awesome Four Cheeseburger that really rocked, and now I have to go to Vancouver to get it.
My Caesar came with two beans....two is always better than one.
This is it, the Four Cheese Burger with side Caesar Salad. The magic ingredient here is the roast garlic. They slow roast the garlic in oil and it literally melts in your mouth, and it's a perfect match to the burger and salad. It's what sets Milestone's burgers and Caesar salads apart from all the others and it's what keeps me going to Milestone's. The Kobe-Beef meatloaf. I know what you're thinking, what a waste to use Kobe-beef in meatloaf, but it actually tastes pretty good. In all honesty though, it would probably still taste great if they used regular beef. When you turn Kobe beef into ground beef, it may as well be your run-of-the-mill ground beef from Costco.


As I mentioned before, this review could use better pictures, but the batteries on my camera died so I shot these crappy pictures with my phone. I promise awesome pictures the next time I get to go to a Milestone's.
This particular event was a celebration dinner for work and there were about 20 of us packed in the lounge downstairs. Our servers were fantastic in keeping track of all of us. They were friendly, very professional, and our overall experience there was excellent. I would defintely plan a group event there again.
