Copa Cafe - revsited

I went to Copa Cafe again!  And again, it smelled like takenoko when I stepped in....why does this place always smell like bamboo shoots?

We had a couple of coupons for free red bean ice so we dropped those down right away.  As a drink, I think it was a bit of a fail because there were loads of red beans, but the ice was...how do you say it....not shaved fine...it was more line ground ice so we were chewing on little chunks of flavourless ice.....yea, could have used some more condensed milk.  I would have preferred a plain ice lemon tea or milk tea, but they said that we couldn't substitute so that's fine.

I ordered a baked seafood on rice.  I've been dying to try it here to see if it was any good and it didn't disappoint.  It was a little smaller than I expected though, especially for a dinner size.  To me, it felt like it was afternoon tea-time size.  Complaints about the size aside, it was chock-full of seafood, and the cream sauce was awesome.  It was a lot better than your run-of-the-mill flour and milk bit....this actually tasted creamy and a little buttery.

Next was the Baked Pork Chop on Rice, also seemingly small for a dinner size, but still tasted really, really good nonetheless.

I think I might take a break from HK Cafes for a while though, not sure if I'm going too much or just getting bored.....maybe I should try other stuff........actually, I was hoping to order their baked Linguini Bolognese this night, but they were out of Bolognese!!!  Hard to beleive but they ran out and it was only 7pm.

  1. The red bean ice at HK cafes aren't that great. I've ordered it once and I didn't know it was actually huge ice cubes. Only bbt/ dessert places have shaved I think.

I need to try this place! The pork chop rice looks so good, thanks for the video! haha :D

  3. Hey ladies!

When I was a kid (a million years ago), I had real hong dou bing in Taiwain and since then, I haven't really experienced that finely shaved ice. Can someone point me in the right direction =)?

Yeah, the baked pork chop on rice here is pretty good, the pics are nice to look at but you should watch the vid in 720p :p

  4. Okay, I watched it in HD and I felt like I was drowning in baked pork rice (or drowning in happiness) since it was so close! Thanks for the hd-ness! haha

You should give Cherry Icy Bar a try for red bean ice! Their icy is pretty good, but I don't know if it's shaved fine enough for you! I like it though!

  5. ^ I LOVE Cherry Icy Bar!
If you like shaved ice-the original style not like frappe bliss where it's melt in your mouth.

Peter, are you talking about the hong dou bing that has the consistency of a slurpy-ish?

  6. Hi Gloria, Janice!

Thanks for the tip! Cherry Icy Bar - I will check it out!

Well, I'm not sure about slurpy...the ice was shaved so fine that you don't get granules of ice when you eat it....it's like eating freshly fallen snow - like powder. It melts fast though, so it might seem like a slurpy if you wait too long, haha!
