The Keg - Granville Island

The Keg.  What better place to start a pub crawl than the Keg?  Last week a couple of old coworkers organized a pub crawl and I show up only knowing one person....how ackward.  Some of my other pals did show up later on, but when I got there, I was debating to pig out in front of a bunch of strangers......hunger got the better of me and so I pigged out.

My night started off right - Chivas Regal 12 yrs, no other drink should be paired with the hunk of dead cow I was about to eat.

The Keg delivers - Keg Size Prime Rib, prepared fat and bloody, just the way I like.  I'm curious what kind of heathen would have it any other way?

My pals that came later.  This is the crew I worked with during the 2010 Olympics, arguably the best work experience I have ever had.  From left to right: Irfan, me, David and Harpreet.

Harpreet, the smooth operator, with our server.  I didn't catch her name, but she was awesome.  She was on top of our drinks, our orders, and the food.  Very professional.  The Keg at Granville Island definitely lives up to it's name with great food, great service and reasonable prices.  I'd go back in a heartbeat, but that goes without saying.

  2. Hi Elaine,

Well, some people aren't really that into beef. When I was a kid, I always hated steak because whenever my parents ordered it, it was always well done....a disgusting way to eat beef. I only discovered how great it was to eat a good steak (or in this case, prime rib) nice and rare.

If you and some other bloggers what to get together(I've never met any other bloggers, but I think I may have seen some at the grand opening of Benkei Ramen on 5th) sometime and go to a Keg, let me know and I will be more than happy to show you the satisfaction in eating a fine slab of beef. I'll order a nice large, Keg Size Omega Prime Rib and share a sliver of it with you, and if you don't like it, you can always go back to your baby back ribs, LOL!

  3. OMG we experienced the exact same thing!

Before I started eating some raw food, I would always get a "medium" steak and complain how rough the meat was. Then once I started ordering medium rare, I finally realize how good steaks are lmao!

  4. Lol, personally, I think it's criminal to cook a steak beyond rare, but that's just me.

A pal of mine made the mistake of ordering a steak at Boston Pizza once (well, the first mistake was going to Boston Pizza, the second mistake was ordering a steak there) and when he asked for rare, he got well done....nice right? Their excuse was it was sitting under the heat lamp too long after it was cooked. WTF.

That's the European/North American conception of a steak. Some parts of the world, steaks are cooked well done by default and that's how it is eaten and people like it that way. Take for example, Argentina. Whenever you have beef, it is cook through.

  6. Hi KimHo,

    No, I don't think it's a European/North American Conception of a steak. I think it's MY conception of a steak, that's why I said "personally" ;)

Many of my friends (who reside in North America) don't eat steak the way I do (blue rare to rare), and personally, I think they're all a bunch of savages, lol!

  7. Peter,

It's funny because I use to work at the Keg when I was in high school. The fondest memories for me back then were eating slabs of un-servable prime rib in the back with the cooks. Good times lol.

I saw from the comments you know about the Keg Omega. What stopped you from ordering it this time around? I have to give props to whoever can finish those things as even for a big eater like me, that thing is massive.

    Elaine,

You have to try the steaks next time! A nice New York or Baseball Sirloin are the best choices in my opinion.

  8. Hi Jer,

Thanks for posting! If I worked at the Keg, those would be my fondest memories too - eating slabs of un-servable prime rib. Maybe they should put that on the menu.....say, $25 and you can sit in the kitchen and just eat the un-servable bits all night!

Oh yeah, I'm well aware of the Keg Omega, but my pants are a bit tight as it is now, and I figured I better lose a little around the middle before I try that again. I definitely want to try it again. A couple of my pals from my iaido class took on the challenge and about 3 of them finished it!
